Does your coffee really come from Hawaii? Your website says that you roast them in San Diego, California.

Yes, we source all our raw coffee beans from the Big Island of Hawaii. More specifically, our raw beans come an award-winning coffee farm in Kailua-Kona (aka “Kona”). On the Big Island, there are many coffee farmers… we only work with the best.

Why roast your coffee beans in California? Why not, Hawaii? It seems better that way.

Good question. Simply put, freshness. Because we are a California-based company, we have found that optimal freshness is achieved when roast locally in our home state. Roasting is an important part of the coffee process and we like to oversee that part from start to finish.

If you think about it, Kona, Hawaii, is about a 5-6 hour flight to the nearest U.S. state (i.e., California). If we roasted our beans in Hawaii, the process of getting those beans to our customers would take a lot longer. Why? Well, first, the beans would have to be roasted, packaged, and shipped all the way to California. Then, after we perform a quality assurance check, we would have to re-package and re-ship the beans to you. This is all precious time and freshness wasted, even more so for those living on the East Coast. So, in the end, what may “seem” better on paper is actually not in reality.
